A 32-year-old male is currently under police guard in a hospital in Mpumalanga, awaiting interrogation on the alleged murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend and her 63-year-old grandmother. Monday, September 5th, they were murdered in Emandamini, close to Ermelo.

The victim’s family was reportedly contacted by the victim’s grandmother’s employer after she failed to report for work on Monday.

When family members arrived at the residence, the doors were locked. No one knew where the women were, and their phone calls remained unanswered.

“The boyfriend of the granddaughter was reportedly asked to give family members the house keys, but he denied any knowledge of the keys.

“When probed about his girlfriend’s location, he allegedly stated that she was in the hospital because she was feeling ill,” said South African Police Service (SAPS) spokeswoman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

According to reports, family members stormed into the home at 18:00. They discovered the bodies of the women. They were wrapped in blankets and covered with wounds and bruises.

Allegedly, the community initiated a quest for the lover in hopes that he may shed light on the incident. Eventually, at 2:00 on Tuesday, he was located and turned over to the police.

Community members asserted he self-inflicted his injuries by stabbing himself with a knife. The police subsequently arrested him for interrogation, and he was subsequently kept under police guard in a hospital so that he might provide clarification and information that could benefit the inquiry, as Mohlala explained.

Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the police commissioner of Mpumalanga, denounced the brutal murder of the women.

“We continue to see needless killings of vulnerable people, and in this case, it’s an elderly woman and a child.” This is a cause for concern, but the police will work diligently to uncover the truth, and whomever is responsible for their murder will face the full force of the law. The investigation has been entrusted to a team of investigators, and we anticipate that they will shortly reach a breakthrough,” said Manamela.
