Police block Peterborough’s passport office on Northminster after a’suspicious package was discovered

This evening, a Passport Office was ‘evacuated’ after a’suspicious package was discovered,’ prompting an emergency reaction.

Police blocked off an area near Peterborough’s passport office on Northminster, and the facility was believed to be evacuated.

People were seen wrapped in blankets along the nearby City Road.

‘We were contacted at about 7.30pm [May 30] with complaints of a suspicious item at the Passport Office in Northminster, Peterborough,’ a Cambridgeshire Constabulary spokesperson said.

An investigation is ongoing to establish more information about the contents of the package.

‘Road closures and a cordon are in place as a precaution.’

New Road, Northminster and Midgate roads were also closed with police and fire crews on the scene, after setting up a cordon, the Peterborough Telegraph reported.

The Passport Office has been contacted for comment.
