Police apprehend a bandit in a Kaduna hotel, refusing a bribe of one million naira

Arrest and Bribery Attempt of 28-Year-Old Bandit in Kaduna

A 28-year-old bandit, identified as Bello Muhammad, was apprehended in a hotel in Tafa town, Kaduna, following credible information received by the divisional headquarters.

The suspect, hailing from Zamfara State, was taken into custody on January 19, 2024.

Recovery of Proceeds and Confession

The Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, revealed that during the operation, a sum of N2,350,000 suspected to be the proceeds of kidnapping was recovered from Bello.

The investigation uncovered that Bello, along with his gang, operated in the Kagarko forest in Kaduna.

The suspect admitted to being involved in kidnapping, and a check of his mobile phone provided evidence, including pictures of him brandishing an AK47 rifle in a forest.

Bribery Attempt and Rejection

ASP Mansir Hassan stated that Bello Muhammad attempted to bribe the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) with one million naira from the recovered ransom to halt the investigation.

However, the DPO rejected the bribe, and the investigation continues, with the suspect cooperating by providing vital information.

Commendation and Call to Action

The Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, CP A.D Ali, commended the Tafa Division’s Operatives for their efforts.

He urged law enforcement officers to intensify their efforts until crimes and criminal activities are significantly reduced.

Additionally, CP A.D Ali called on hoteliers, recreation, and leisure service operators in the State to rigorously verify the identities of their customers to prevent criminals from finding refuge in their establishments.
