CAF: We lost because of officials – Orlando Pirates Coach

Fact Checked by TDPel News Desk
By Pelumi Emmanuel

On Sunday, Orlando Pirates were defeated by Simba SC in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final encounter in Tanzania.

Shomari Kapombe scored the game’s sole goal in the 68th minute after converting a penalty kick, however Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi claimed after the game that the penalty should never have been awarded.

In a startling tirade, Ncikazi implied that there were no legitimate grounds for VAR not working, while also implying that officials had favored the home team on purpose.

The coach also criticised the team’s treatment and conditions during their trip to Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa stadium, questioning why fellow African teams were treated so badly if there was a genuine shared purpose of promoting football on the continent.

The return leg is set for Sunday, April 24th at 18:00 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
