– London Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, acknowledges that regularly overcoming significant losses is not a viable strategy for retaining the Premier League championship.

The ability of Erling Haaland to score goals helped the champions come back from being down 3-1 at Newcastle to draw 3-3 and to go down 2-0 to Crystal Palace at home before winning 4-2.

Guardiola, meanwhile, claims it was not feasible to average four or five goals every game.

Before the game against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday at home, he remarked, “We have to strive to prevent it.

It is advantageous now since recovering from adversity in the past was never easy. And now that we’ve shown both last season and this season that we can do it, we must make every effort to avoid doing it.

“We must control this circumstance. It carries danger. We won’t be able to return one day.

When questioned whether City was giving up more goals this season since they were a more aggressive club with Haaland in the lineup, Guardiola said, “It is precisely the reverse, as far out from your goal you are more safer.

“We have shown this in six years, and playing in this manner has resulted in us conceding few goals while winning the Premier League. We are going to make some adjustments; this is typical at this time.

We are both scoring a lot of goals and giving up a lot of goals, and if we don’t stop that, it will be difficult. For a few months, you can’t always win a game with four or five goals. We need to improve.

In his first four appearances for City, Haaland has scored six goals, including the game-winning hat-trick against Palace on Saturday.

Guardiola avoided saying who he would start up front against Forest, although he did suggest Julian Alvarez would replace Haaland if he was rested.

“When Erling is unavailable, Julian will be used. That is almost certain,” he remarked.

“His speed, sense of purpose, and work ethic are just a few of the qualities that genuinely impress us.

“I was amazed by how amazing he is, even though I only knew him from TV and video clips. He puts all into every training session and is very modest and upbeat. These are the players I like.

“The effect in the minutes he has played — he was involved in two goals in the most recent game and might have scored a hat-trick at the Camp Nou. We are pleased that he has a sense of objectives.

Although we are happy that Erling is getting attention, Julian is a standout player.
