Police: Parent Flogs Teacher to Death for Punishing His Son Over Alleged Theft

A secondary school teacher in Delta State has been reportedly flogged to death by a parent of one of his students. The State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested the suspect, Nnajiofor Nweke, over the death of the teacher at Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Nweke’s son and other students were allegedly caught stealing two kegs of palm wine from a shop, and the school authorities punished them for it.

Nweke stormed the school in protest, armed with a cane, and began flogging the teachers on duty. One of the teachers slumped and died.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, attributed it to poor parenting.
