One man killed and multiple injured in a tour bus crash in Alice Springs

A tour bus traveling across the Australian Outback crashed near Alice Springs, killing one person and injuring several others.

The bus, which was carrying about 20 passengers, crashed 5 kilometers outside of Hermannburg, a small hamlet an hour west of Darwin.

The incident occurred at 3.30 p.m. on Monday, according to NT Police, and many passengers were transferred to Alice Springs Hospital via ambulance.

Other passengers were taken to a local health care for minor injuries.

On Monday evening, emergency teams remained on the scene, and heavy vehicle traffic were directed to take Namatjira Drive as a detour.

The collision is being investigated by both the NT Police Major Crash Investigation Unit and Worksafe NT.
