After opening fire at a hotel in Michigan, a shooter has killed at least one person with his pistol.

At the Hampton Inn in Deaborn, close to Detroit, on Thursday afternoon, the suspect got into an argument with employees about their bill and then began firing with a “long gun.”

The suspect allegedly locked themselves inside a hotel room after that, according to Dearborn police.

It is unknown whether the victim was a staff member.

Police closed up on the man and encircled him, but they issued a warning that the situation was “dynamic and highly hazardous.”

To the best of their knowledge, the police claimed the hotel had been completely evacuated.

Officials were still engaged in discussions with the suspect, who they characterized as being “contained,” as of 4:15 p.m. this afternoon.

During the gunfire, footage saw squad vehicles speeding through stopped traffic at a red signal.

‘Dearborn Police are currently talking with the suspect at the hotel trying towards a peaceful settlement,’ the Michigan State Police said in an update.

We continue to urge people to avoid downtown Dearborn because the situation is unstable and subject to change, they continued.

30 minutes later, there was an update that stated: “The suspect is still firing rounds.” The area around the hotel is being cleared by cops and troopers. Due to the current situation and the high level of public risk, please avoid the area.

Duvall Elementary School, which is nearby and less than a mile from the incident, was also placed on lockdown.

We are not admitting anybody inside the school at this time due to the situation outside the facility.

Our school day and learning are still going on with all of our staff and children in good health. The school announced in a message on its website that there would be no extracurricular activities at DuVall.

Police informed adjacent schools that it was okay to let pupils go at the conclusion of the school day at a news conference.

In close proximity to Detroit’s downtown is where the shooting took place.
