Governor Aiyedatiwa Dissolves State Executive Council
In a bold and far-reaching decision, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has officially announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council.
The announcement, made through a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on January 24, 2024, takes immediate effect.
Immediate Handover of Responsibilities
The dissolution directive extends to all members of the Cabinet, who have been explicitly instructed to promptly hand over their duties and responsibilities.
Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices are designated to receive these responsibilities without delay.
Inclusion of Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs)
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s sweeping decision doesn’t stop at the Cabinet level but also encompasses all Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) appointed under his administration.
Effective immediately, they are relieved of their duties and are obligated to hand over any government properties in their possession.
Expressing Gratitude for Past Services
In his statement, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the state during their tenure.
However, the precise reasons behind this sudden dissolution remain undisclosed, leading to speculation and discussions among political analysts and citizens alike.
Speculations about Governor’s Political Ambitions
Rumors are circulating that Governor Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office following the demise of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, might be gearing up to contest in the upcoming 2024 governorship election.
However, as of now, there is no explicit confirmation linking this dissolution to the Governor’s political ambitions.
Unraveling the Motives
Despite the speculation about Governor Aiyedatiwa’s political aspirations, the motives behind the dissolution of the State Executive Council remain unclear.
The absence of a detailed explanation has fueled discussions and debates, adding an air of uncertainty to the political landscape in Ondo State.
