Postponement of Usyk vs. Fury Bout
Ukrainian heavyweight boxer, Oleksandr Usyk, has confirmed that his highly anticipated bout against British heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury, will not proceed as originally scheduled for December 23.
Usyk expressed his hope that the title fight, set to occur in Saudi Arabia, can be rescheduled for February.
Usyk’s Readiness and Fury’s Healing
Usyk had initially declared his readiness to face Fury in December.
However, he acknowledged that Fury needed time to heal from injuries sustained in his recent bout against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, in which Fury emerged victorious in a split decision.
Notably, Fury left the fight with visible facial injuries that require recovery time.
Usyk’s Desire for a February Clash
Usyk, who currently holds titles in the WBA, WBO, and IBF, expressed his desire for the bout with Fury to be postponed to February, considering Fury’s recent injuries.
He conveyed this message during an interview in Valencia, Spain, where he is currently in training.
Anticipation for a New Fight Date
A new date for the Usyk vs. Fury fight is expected to be announced in the coming week.
The bout is eagerly anticipated and carries significance, as it will determine the first unchallenged four-belt champion since Lennox Lewis achieved the feat in 1999.
The postponement of the Usyk vs. Fury fight is a disappointment for boxing fans eagerly awaiting the matchup between two heavyweight champions.
It underscores the importance of fighters being in peak physical condition for such high-stakes encounters, as Fury’s injuries necessitate additional time for recovery.
The new fight date will undoubtedly generate considerable excitement as it approaches.
