OGUN GOVERNMENT MOVES AGAINST SHANTIES, OTHER ILLEGAL STRUCTURES IN MOWE-IBAFO

Ogun State Government says it is putting measures in place, to checkmate further spread of shanties and other forms of illegal structure, particularly at Mowe-Ibafo axis of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Special Adviser to Governor on Environment, Ola Oresanya dropped the hint on Sunday in an interview with newsmen during the on the spot assessment by State Government Special Committee On Illegal Structure to the area

Oresanya who expressed concern over the uncontrolled spread of illegal structure, especially shanties on the right of ways on the highway and indiscriminate parking by drivers of heavy trucks, said government would move against further encroachment of its acquired land and work on relocation of the affected people in order to sanitize the environment

“We have to nip it in bud now, we have to make sure we secure the right of ways for development activities and servicing population influx around these areas”he stated

The Special Adviser added that the Physical Planning and Urban Development Ministry as well as that of Transport and Environment, Bureau of Land and Survey and other relevant agencies of government would meet and engage the stakeholders on how to improve on the government’s concept for development of the affected areas

On the popular Kara Cattle market at the axis, he said effort would be made by government to define how the traders would be operating in the area or resettle the them

“We have to define how they (traders) operate there, if there is going to be any form of resettlement,we have to carry people along and we have to define the stages of resettlement here ,there must be action plan,” Oresanya submitted

He stressed that the Prince Dapo Abiodun’s administration would be alive to its responsibilities of ensuring a descent physical environment by putting an end to further Infractions on the right of ways in the Mowe, Ibafo, Arepo, Isheri Olofin Town and the likes
