Ogun Deaf Athletics Chairman, Gbenga Abijo Mourns Veteran Athletics Coach, John Afuwape

The Chairman of Ogun State Deaf Athletics Association, Chief Gbenga Abijo says he’s shocked and bitter due to the death of veteran Athletics tutor, John Afuwape.

Coach Afuwape was said to have died on Saturday, October 30, 2021 in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital after battling with a brief illness.

From his base in the United Kingdom, Chief Abijo said it’s a death too many, because the deceased was full of vision and will be dearly missed.

He said “This is a very sad news, Coach Afuwape was always willing to put people through whenever he was on his coaching duty”

“He was my coach, he did so much for me, my rise and growth from Nigeria and then to the UK may not have been possible without him”.

“Prior to the National Youth Games, he told me he would like to attend the event, but i pleaded with him to wait till the Sports Festival, so that he would see a few other coaches that are his colleagues, the plan was already sorted, but unfortunately he wouldn’t even live to witness the next Sports Festival”.

The Deaf Athletics Chairman in Ogun State however noted that the late Coach John Afuwape lived a good life, one everybody will be proud of, so he’s extremely confident that his late Coach is already resting in the bosom of the Almighty.

Apart from Chief Gbenga Abijo, the late Athletics Coach also discovered other talents while he was active in the Athletics coaching industry
