Do you know that the Obiano administration sponsored the successful completion of about 600 impactful and developmental community-based projects through the novel N20m community-choose-your-project-initiative?
Do you know that Forbes Magazine recognized the N20m community-choose your-project-initiative of the Obiano administration as the blueprint for rural development in Africa?
Indeed, the Obiano administration has taken rural infrastructural development closer to the people by having them choose their most needful projects and selecting from among themselves, the best hands to build and manage the funds and the project through the N20m choose-your-project-initiaitive.
Recall that the project was initiated at a time when the entire country was struggling with recession.
With the first phase of the community choose your project initiative, the Obiano administration was able to reflate the economy of Anambra state by injecting N20m into the micro units of the state – the 179 communities. Onitsha and Obosi got two slots each making the total, 181.
The second phase of the project followed the same procedure and altogether, a total of N7,240,000,000 (N7.24bn) was injected directly into the communities of Anambra state, creating an upward (bottom-up) flow of resources that reflated the economy of the state and helped to protect it from recession.
According to the Anambra state Commissioner for local Government Affairs, Chief Greg Obi, the multiplier effect of money made the initiative more potent.
The initiative continues into its third phase. However, a breakdown of some of the projects completed in the first and second phase in the communities, covering the three senatorial zones of the state include:
– CONSTRUCTION OF LOCK UP SHOPS AND OPEN MARKET STALLS IN 116 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION OF PAVILION/PODIUM IN 16 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION OF CIVIC CENTRE/ TOWN HALLS IN 104 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION OF CLASSROOM/LABORATORIES AND DORMITORY IN 32 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION OF HEALTH CENTRES AND HOSPITAL WARDS IN 51 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION OF SKILLS AND ACQUISITION CENTRES in 13 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION OF QUARTERS/ ADMIN BLOCKS IN 49 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION OF PERIMETER FENCE IN 43 COMMUNITIES
– RURAL ELECTRIFICATION IN 27 COMMUNITIES
– DRILLING OF BOREHOLES IN 24 COMMUNITIES
– CONSTRUCTION/RENOVATION OF COURTS, POLICE STATION AND OFFICES IN 27 COMMUNITIES AMONG MANY OTHERS.
Truly, rural development in Anambra state has blossomed with the N20m community choose your project initiative of the Obiano administration.
The third phase of the project promises more.
