The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has sympathised with NUJ President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, entire members of the Union, members of staff of Vanguard Newspaper and the immediate family of Tordue Salem, who was found dead in Abuja late last night.

The union, in a statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed and Omotayo Ayanda respectively, described the incident as shocking and disheartening.

It prayed God Almighty to grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort his family, friends and the NUJ family.

“This is sad and devastating, and a sad moment for journalism profession and the entire nation.

The wanton loss of lives and the general insecurity in the system is worrisome.

“We mourn the passing and gruesome murder of Salem at his prime, whose sudden disappearance turned out to be his tragic end.

We would continue to remember him for his commitment and sacrifice to duty,” the statement said.

While the union condoled with the family of the deceased, management and staff of Vanguard Newspaper, it called on the governments and security agencies to step up measures to stem the current insecurity challenges in the country.

Expose those behind it
The union, however, challenged security agencies to unravel the circumstances and expose those behind this heinous crime so as to face the full wrath of the law.

The statement stated; “We use this opportunity to once again, call on the authorities; the federal government, Inspector General of Police and others to unmask the killers of deceased journalist and others mowed down in their primes in recent times.
