NSITF Trains Employers, Employees In Awka On Safe Workplace, Improved Productivity

Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund has organized a one – day training for employers and employees in Awka to equip both parties with necessary knowledge on how to ensure safe workplace and improve productivity.

 

The event which held at IDK Learning Center Awka with theme, “Enhancing Productivity Through Prevention of Workplace Accidents and Promotion of Occupational Safety and Health in the Construction Industry”, attracted both representatives of private and public sector organisations from across the state.

 

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that in a presentation on “the benefits of employee’s compensation scheme and occupational safety and health perspective”, a resource person at the event, Mr Kingsley Umah, explained that employees’ Compensation Act 2010, established the compensation scheme which provides for compensation to employees in the event of death, injury, disability or disease arising out of or in in the course of employment, and related matters.

While disclosing that section two sub section two of the ECA 2010 mandates Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, management board to implement the Act as well as the fund created under section fifty-six of the Act, Mr Umah assured that the employee involved in any of the aforementioned accidents has twenty-one days to notify NSITF, for compensation, if he or she is registered with the organization.

 

Another resource person at the event, Dr Mba Agwu encouraged employers and employees to adopt safe practices in their work environment in order to prevent accidents or mishaps of all sorts, as according to him, most accidents are caused by unsafe acts by people.

 

Dr Agwu asked employers to train and retrain their workers, and as well pay them handsomely and as at when due, in order to improve productivity and encourage good behaviour.

In an interview, the Branch Manager of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Lady Kosi Ejidike, commended participants for attending the event and asked them to step down the knowledge garnered.

 

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Dr Uche Nworah, was among dignitaries that were present at the event which was organised in partnership with Jeff and Xris Limited.

 

The event featured question and answer session during which the participants were clarified more on how to benefit from the employees’ Compensation Act.
