NRMA: Father and son killed on M1 near Ourimbah, Central Coast

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to a father and son who died in a horrifying motorway collision that shook their neighbourhood.

On Saturday, Ewen Jubb, 46, and his son Alex, 14, passed away while waiting for NRMA roadside assistance on the M1 Motorway near Ourimbah on the NSW Central Coast.

Around nine in the morning, a Mitsubishi Challenger struck the pair’s Holden Commodore, causing them to stop on the motorway’s centre median strip.

After the terrible accident, wife and mother Bernadette Jubb received “huge support and aid” from the police and other authorities, a family member told The Newcastle News.

The family resides at Coal Point on Lake Macquarie, a suburb of Newcastle, where Alex attended a nearby school and Ewen worked as a construction surveyor.

According to the family member, “(They are) a) quiet, caring and hard-working family.” “Alex’s buddies and the school had been informed,”

Counseling has been made available to Alex’s instructors and friends to help them deal with the little boy’s death, but the school has not yet officially notified all parents since it is still awaiting family clearance.

The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit officers are still looking into the crash and have encouraged anybody in the vicinity who may have dashcam video between the hours of 8.15 and 9 a.m. to come forward.

Initial accounts indicate that at 9am, the father and son had parked on the centre median strip and became stuck when the SUV lost control and hit them.

The 27-year-old was not hurt in the collision but was transported to a hospital in Wyong for a required checkup.

At the scene, Ewen and Alex were being treated by a nurse and a police officer who wasn’t on duty.

Crime Stoppers is urging anybody with pertinent information to get in touch.
