If you’re planning your week, Nigeria’s weather agency has shared a heads-up.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) says the country will experience a mix of sunshine, haze, clouds, and a few pockets of rain from Wednesday through Friday.

Northern Nigeria: Sunshine with a Hazy Feel

Across the northern states, NiMet expects mostly sunny conditions, but with a noticeable haze hanging in the air throughout the period.

By Friday, the haze may thicken as dust particles become more active, especially later in the afternoon and evening.

Visibility could be reduced, so outdoor activities may feel slightly uncomfortable at times.

Central Region: Bright Skies, Dust in the Air

The central part of the country isn’t left out of the hazy outlook.

Sunny and hazy conditions are forecast to dominate from midweek into Friday.

NiMet also warned that dust particles are suspended in the atmosphere across the North Central zone, urging residents to take precautions, especially those sensitive to poor air quality.

Southern States: Sunshine, Clouds, and Scattered Storms

In the south, the story is more mixed. Expect bright skies broken by patches of cloud cover.

While mornings may appear calm and sunny, NiMet says there’s a chance of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall as the day progresses.

States likely to experience these brief storms include Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and parts of the South-East and South-South.

On Thursday, the rain chances expand slightly to include Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Delta, Imo, and others, particularly from morning into the later hours of the day.

What Friday Looks Like Nationwide

By Friday morning, the north should still enjoy sunshine, though haze will remain present.

As the day moves on, dust haze is expected to become more pronounced.

The central region will continue under sunny and hazy conditions, while the south may see cloudy skies with sunny breaks and a renewed chance of isolated thunderstorms and light rain across several states.

Health and Safety Advice from NiMet

NiMet is urging Nigerians, especially those with asthma or other respiratory conditions, to be mindful of the dusty and hazy atmosphere.

Drivers are also advised to be cautious when rain falls, as wet roads can reduce visibility and increase accident risks.

Airline operators have been encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports directly from NiMet to support safe and efficient flight planning.

Staying Ahead of the Weather

Residents are advised to keep up with regular weather updates and official advisories from NiMet.

Staying informed can help individuals and businesses plan better and stay safe as conditions change.

What’s Next?

Weather patterns can shift quickly, so NiMet recommends checking daily forecasts and alerts.

For more updates, the agency encourages the public to follow its official platforms and website for the latest information.
