Nigerian football fans were left surprised after Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen had a visible confrontation with teammate Ademola Lookman during Monday’s dominant 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16.
The incident, captured on camera, quickly became a hot topic among supporters online.
The Galatasaray forward was seen visibly frustrated in the 63rd minute after Lookman missed a clear opportunity that could have set up Osimhen.
Despite Lookman having already created two chances for Osimhen, one of which resulted in a direct assist, Osimhen reacted angrily on the field.
What Really Happened on the Field
In the footage circulating online, Osimhen first distanced himself from captain Wilfred Ndidi before pointing at Lookman and expressing his displeasure.
Fans could hear him shout in pidgin, “No try am again,” which translates to “don’t try that again.”
Shortly after, Osimhen requested to be substituted and was met with boos from the crowd as Moses Simon replaced him.
The exchange raised eyebrows, especially considering Nigeria’s commanding lead in the game.
Many wondered why the striker would let frustration show at a moment when the team was performing so well.
Fans React on Social Media
The incident sparked a wave of criticism on X (formerly Twitter), with fans questioning Osimhen’s temperament.
Influencer Emma Ik Umeh (@emmaikumeh) highlighted the irony, pointing out that Lookman had already assisted Osimhen’s second goal. She described his behavior as annoying and unnecessary.
Godwin Wilson called it “very silly behavior as usual,” while Oladapo Omolade admitted he was confused by the striker’s reaction and urged him to calm down.
Victor Adeboje found the outburst irritating, and Edwin Uka expressed disbelief at Osimhen’s attitude, emphasizing how shocking it was to witness.
Some supporters suggested that pride might have been the root cause.
Bigrated (@the_boy_rated) wrote that Osimhen seemed too proud and acted as if he was better than everyone else in the team.
Stanley Ogb (@stanogbo97) labeled the incident unprofessional, adding that Osimhen clearly had an attitude problem.
Despite the Drama, Nigeria Dominates
While the confrontation grabbed headlines, the on-field performance remained impressive.
Osimhen scored twice, while Lookman contributed two assists and also scored a goal himself.
Nigeria’s victory marked their fourth consecutive win in the tournament and secured a spot in the quarter-finals.
The Super Eagles will now await the winner between Algeria and DR Congo as they pursue their first AFCON title since 2013.
