The sudden death of 13-year-old Timothy Daniel has sent shockwaves through Akwa Ibom State and beyond.

The incident, which took place on January 1, 2026, in Ette, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, has drawn intense public attention and speculation, prompting the Nigerian Army to step in with an official statement.

Army Urges Calm and Patience Amid Investigation

The Nigerian Army’s 2 Brigade in Uyo has called on the public to avoid jumping to conclusions or spreading rumors that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Capt. Lawal Muhammad, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized that no conclusions have been reached and that all facts are still being carefully examined.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we ask everyone to refrain from speculation or comments that may compromise the process,” Muhammad said.

He reassured that the findings of the investigation would be publicly shared once they are complete.

Details of the Incident Under Investigation

According to reports, Timothy Daniel was allegedly shot by a soldier assigned to Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited.

The tragic event reportedly occurred when Timothy attempted to protect his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel, from unwanted advances by the soldier.

The Army has confirmed that it immediately launched a thorough investigation to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring accountability in line with established procedures,” the statement read.

Condolences and Commitment to Accountability

Capt. Muhammad extended the Army’s heartfelt sympathy to Timothy’s family, acknowledging their grief and loss.

“We express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Timothy Daniel and pray for the repose of his soul,” he stated.

The statement also reinforced the Army’s commitment to professionalism and strict adherence to rules of engagement, assuring the public that all personnel are held accountable for their actions.

As the investigation continues, the Nigerian Army has urged citizens to remain patient and respectful of the legal process.
