In a dramatic display of readiness, soldiers from the 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully intercepted an armed robbery along the busy Abuja–Kaduna Highway.
The operation came after troops received a distress call during a routine patrol, highlighting the army’s quick response to threats against public safety.
Immediate Response to Distress Call
According to the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Shuaib Umar, the troops were alerted to an ongoing robbery at Nasarawan Doka.
“Upon receiving the distress signal, our team swiftly mobilized to confront the criminals and neutralize the threat,” he stated.
The prompt action ensured that the situation was contained before it escalated further.
Suspect Apprehended, Others Flee
During the encounter, one suspect, identified as Kabiru Zayyanu, sustained a gunshot injury to his leg. He was immediately taken to Doka General Hospital for first aid.
Meanwhile, the remaining members of the gang managed to flee the scene.
Despite a subsequent hot pursuit, no additional contact with the criminals was made, and fortunately, no casualties or abductions were reported.
Investigation and Follow-Up
Umar added that the arrested suspect will be handed over to the appropriate security agency after investigations are completed.
This step ensures proper legal procedures are followed and underscores the army’s commitment to law and order.
Maintaining Security in the Region
The Nigerian Army emphasized that troops continue to maintain a strong presence along the highway and surrounding areas.
Their visibility and patrols aim to deter criminal activity and provide reassurance to residents and travelers.
Public Safety Reminders
The army reassured the public of its ongoing dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
Citizens were also urged to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
“Our commitment to public safety remains unwavering, and cooperation from the public is crucial in ensuring a secure environment,” Umar concluded.
