Arrest of Gistlover Blog Owner and Members
The National Cybercrime Center of the Nigeria Police Force has taken action following a petition lodged by Honorable and Doctor Mrs. Seye Oladejo. In response, the center has made arrests, including that of the owner of Gistlover Blog and its members.
The arrests are related to a case involving Conspiracy, Cyberstalking, and Threats to life, as reported by Linda Ikeji Blog.
The Allegations and Arrests
The police force’s spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the apprehended individuals—Adebukola Kolapo, Nnedum Micheal Somtomchukwu, and Isaac Akpokighe—are allegedly part of a syndicate known as Gistlover family.
The arrests are connected to the operation of the Gistlover blog, a microblogging platform infamous for engaging in Cyberstalking, incitement, Blackmail, and other illicit activities.
Confessions and Involvement
According to the police statement, upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the conspiracy, aligning with the substantial evidence already on hand.
Adebukola Kolapo, also known as Omo oba Gistlover, played a significant role in creating over 80 percent of the Gistlover pages, providing his digital footprint for the commission of criminal acts.
Role of Adebukola Kolapo
Adebukola Kolapo, alias Omo oba Gistlover, allegedly played a key role in creating the majority of the Gistlover pages, contributing to the platform’s criminal activities.
Adebukola, reportedly on the payroll of the platform, received perks such as cars and monetary incentives.
His responsibilities included scouting, editing, captioning contents, and specifically targeting the complainant, Hon. and Dr. Mrs. Oluseyi Oladejo, with cyberstalking posts.
Accusations of Fund Laundering
Adebukola Kolapo is further accused of aiding in the laundering of funds acquired through illegal schemes, using various means.
The digital forensic analysis revealed eight Gistlover pages created by Adebukola at the direction of the syndicate’s head.
Additionally, wallet addresses linked to money laundering activities were discovered through the investigation.
These arrests shed light on the alleged involvement of Gistlover Blog’s owner and members in a range of cybercrimes, bringing attention to the broader issue of illicit activities conducted through microblogging platforms.
