Anxious conversations and disturbing stories have been making the rounds across Benue State, especially on social media, as residents react to allegations of secret slaughterhouses operating in parts of Makurdi.
The claims, which have gripped public attention for days, prompted swift action from the police as fear and curiosity continued to grow among residents.
Police Step In as Allegations Gain Momentum
Responding to the viral reports, the Benue State Police Command confirmed that multiple arrests have already been made.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, officers arrested 41 suspects during coordinated raids in areas identified as potential hotspots.
These operations were carried out in Awe Street, Wurukum, and Wadata, all within Makurdi, as part of efforts to screen individuals linked to the disturbing allegations.
Social Media Testimony That Raised the Alarm
Much of the public outrage stems from a chilling account shared online by an unidentified man who claimed he narrowly escaped a horrifying ordeal.
He alleged that on Christmas Day, December 25, he boarded a motorcycle around 8:30 pm after attending a church programme near the International Market.
Instead of taking him home, the rider reportedly diverted him to Awe Street.
A Disturbing Encounter Inside Awe Street
The man recounted that he felt strangely disoriented, as though he had been hypnotised, before being forced into a building.
Inside, he claimed to have seen about 10 young girls locked in a room.
One of them, he said, was naked and crying, a sight that immediately heightened his fear and confusion.
The environment, according to his account, felt ominous and threatening.
Another Victim’s Story Deepens the Shock
The witness further shared the story of one of the girls, who allegedly said she was abducted earlier that morning while on her way to Ilorin in Kwara State.
She reportedly boarded a motorcycle after the rider convinced her to wait briefly while he picked up a parcel.
That short delay, she claimed, led her straight into captivity.
Despite allegedly offering a large sum of money to secure her release, the captors refused, according to the testimony.
Parents Share Near-Miss Experiences
Adding to the growing anxiety, another social media user claimed his daughter was almost lured to the same street by an Okada rider.
Fortunately, she reportedly sensed danger and found an excuse to get off the motorcycle before anything happened.
Stories like this only intensified public pressure on authorities to act decisively.
Police Confirm Raids and Ongoing Screening
In response to the uproar, DSP Udeme Edet confirmed that the police were fully aware of the allegations circulating online.
She stated that the matter had been escalated and acted upon promptly, leading to raids on identified black spots.
The 41 individuals arrested are currently undergoing screening as investigations continue.
What Happens Next?
While the arrests have offered some reassurance, many residents are still waiting for clarity and concrete findings from the police.
As investigations progress, the public is eager to know whether the claims will be substantiated and what further steps authorities will take to ensure safety across Makurdi.
For now, the police have urged calm while promising to keep the public informed as developments unfold.
