Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Tightens Surveillance at the Jibia Special Border Command amid Crisis in Niger

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken significant steps to enhance security at the Jibia Special Border Command in Katsina State.

The aim is to restrict movements to and fro between Nigeria and the Niger Republic, particularly in light of the crisis that has unfolded in Niger following a coup and subsequent sanctions.

The Comptroller in charge of the Jibia Special Border Command, Mustapha Sani, has issued a warning to Nigerians, urging them not to travel to the Niger Republic during this critical period.

Enhanced Surveillance Measures:

Speaking during the joint celebration with the Katsina State Command of the NIS to commemorate the service’s 60th anniversary, Comptroller Mustapha Sani emphasized the importance of deploying additional personnel to monitor the Katsina border.

The primary objective is to prevent illegal movements from the Niger Republic into Nigeria.

Urging Nigerians to Stay Home:

In light of the ongoing crisis and the sanctions imposed on Niger, Comptroller Sani strongly advised Nigerians to refrain from traveling to the neighboring country until the embargo is lifted.

The current situation in Niger poses potential risks to travelers, and it is essential to exercise caution.

Enforcement and Return of Illegal Migrants:

The Nigeria Immigration Service is taking proactive measures to ensure strict compliance with travel restrictions.

The NIS is prepared to apprehend and return any Nigerien nationals attempting to enter Nigeria during this period.

Despite shared religious and cultural ties, valid travel documents remain a requirement for entry into Nigeria.

Deploying Officers and Strengthening Security:

Comptroller Sani reassured the public that officers have been placed on high alert, and strategic deployments have been made to monitor the orthodox routes used by foreigners attempting to enter Nigeria.

With the surveillance measures in place, it is expected to be considerably challenging for unauthorized individuals to enter the country.

Increased Stop and Search Operations:

To further bolster security measures, the NIS has stationed officers at key locations to conduct routine stop and search operations. This approach has proven effective in the past, and its continuation is critical during times of heightened security concerns.

The Nigeria Immigration Service’s decision to enhance surveillance and restrict movements at the Jibia Special Border Command demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

By urging Nigerians to refrain from traveling to the Niger Republic and enforcing strict immigration measures, the NIS aims to mitigate potential risks and maintain stability during the ongoing crisis in Niger.
