New Caretaker Committee For Haruna Street Traders Inaugurated

A New Caretaker Committee for Haruna Street Traders Association Onitsha has been inaugurated.

 

The Committee headed by Mr. Ejike Dim will pilot the affairs of the Association for three months, commencing from November 2021 to January, 2022.

 

Other members of the committee are, Mr. Augustine Ikeora-Vice Chairman, Mr. Chinedu Nwaigwe-Secretary, Mr. Obinna Udeogwu, Assistant Secretary.

 

Mr. Sunday Okeke is the Financial Secretary, Obiora Okafor-, Treasurer, God’s time Nnabuike-Public Relation Officer while Kingsley Nnanna and Emmanuel Okeke are provost one and two respectively.

 

Mr. Onyebuchi Ohaturuonye is also a member while Mr. Monday Kalu is the leader of the team.

 

Inaugurating the Committee, the President General, Onitsha South Shop Owners, Chief Eric Uwaoma said the mandate to inaugurate the committee was given to him by the Anambra State Ministry of Trade and Commerce, following the setting aside of the election of the Association conducted on nineteenth December, 2018 and the suspension of all forms of market elections in Anambra state by Governor Willie Obiano till after the 2021 gubernatorial elections.

Chief Uwaoma charged the new Caretaker committee to work towards restoring peace and unity in the market.

 

In an acceptance speech, Mr. Dim promised to work with the fear of God, assuring Haruna Street Traders that the era of intimidation and assault is over as he will ensure that all activities in the market are carried out according to the law.

 

The leader of the team, Mr. Monday Kalu, a trader, Mr. Ibe Olikagu and Onyebuchi Ohaturuonye recounted series of brutality, exploitation and intimidation unleashed on the traders by touts employed by the dissolved officers of the market and pledged to work together to restore the glory of the market and create a conducive business environment for the traders and numerous customers.

 

Staff reporter, Oggorchukwu Oranu reports that presentation of Letter of Authority from the state Ministry of Trade and Commerce to the members of the Committee climaxed the inauguration.
