Netherlands’ Micky van de Ven Asserts Confidence in Handling Bukayo Saka Ahead of Euro 2024 Semi-Final Clash with England

The stage is set for an electrifying Euro 2024 semi-final as England faces off against the Netherlands on Wednesday. The anticipation is palpable as both teams gear up for a thrilling clash.

Micky van de Ven expressed confidence in the Netherlands’ ability to manage England’s Bukayo Saka.

“Saka is a fantastic player with great speed, but we’ve got [Virgil] van Dijk and [Nathan] Ake, who are equally quick.

I’m sure they can handle him,” said van de Ven.

Having come off the bench in four of the Netherlands’ five Euro 2024 matches, van de Ven made a crucial block against Turkey in the quarter-finals.

While he didn’t confirm if Ronald Koeman will start him against England, he hinted at his familiarity with Saka from their Premier League encounters.

Speed Showdown: Van de Ven vs. Saka

The Tottenham defender, known for his blistering pace, boasted about his speed when compared to Saka.

Cody Gakpo chimed in, humorously declaring van de Ven “the fastest player ever in the Premier League.”

Van de Ven holds the record for the fastest speed in Premier League history, clocking 37.38 km/h (23.23 mph) against Brentford.

Gakpo’s Preferred Position

Cody Gakpo, a key player for the Dutch side with three goals in the tournament, shared his preference for playing on the left wing rather than as a striker.

“I was a left winger before, so that’s always been my preference,” Gakpo explained.

Despite his position change at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, he remains focused on contributing to the team’s success.

Eyeing the Trophy

Gakpo emphasized the Dutch team’s determination to replicate the 1988 squad’s success, which won the Euros in West Germany.

“We want to go all the way,” he stated, stressing that the team is not underestimating England despite their inconsistent performances.

A Beautiful Tournament

Reflecting on the tournament, Gakpo highlighted the strong bond within the Dutch squad.

“This has been a very beautiful tournament with our group.

The feeling’s really strong,” he said.

Acknowledging England’s strength, he anticipated a fantastic match, hoping it would be a memorable game for all.
