National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Seizes N5bn worth of Tramadol

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja, and Edo state, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, recovered 9.5 million Tramadol and Exol 5 tablets valued over N5 billion.

Mr. Femi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, said this in a press statement on Sunday.

“Of the total, 214 cartons of Tramadol 225 under ten different brand names, translating to 9, 219, 400 tablets weighing 6, 384.5kg, with an estimated value of N4, 609, 700, 000, were transferred by Nigerian Customs to the MMIA Command of the NDLEA on Tuesday 29th March as a symbol of the synergy between the two law enforcement agencies.”

“About 228,740 Tramadol and Exol 5 tablets and capsules were intercepted on Friday 1st April at Abaji region of the FCT,” according to a statement from Abuja. The drugs were placed onto the truck in Lagos and driven to Kano.”

“Despite the fact that the truck driver escaped into the bush during the vehicle search, two of his assistants were found.”

Arrests made in other states include:

“A Brazilian returnee Nnanna Anayo Michael, 39, was detained during the inward screening of passengers on board Qatar Airline flight QR1433 from Doha to Port Harcourt on Tuesday, March 29th with 73 sachets cocaine totaling 8.15 kilograms,” according to the Port Harcourt International Airport.

“An immediate follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of Monday Alaisu, 50, who traveled from Lagos to pick up the narcotic in Nnenna,” according to the statement.

“17.6kg cannabis was transferred to the state command of NDLEA by the Oyo/Osun Area Command of Nigerian Customs Service, along with a suspect, Ramon Dauda, 40, just as narcotic officers on patrol along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday 31st March intercepted a consignment of 10kg cannabis and 12.1grams of cocaine,” according to the Oyo/Osun Area Command of Nigerian Customs Service.

“A follow-up operation in Ilesa, Osun state, resulted in the arrest of Mrs Remi Aluko, 44, the owner of the drug exhibits.”

“Three drug joints were busted at Wire road and Uromi town in Esan Central LGA where 188 pinches of Cocaine and Heroin were found and five suspects were arrested,” according to a statement from Benin City.

Harrison Odion, a patent medicine salesman from Okada town, was arrested with codeine, Tramadol, Exol 5, Diazepam, and other drugs in another raid.”

In addition, seven drug dealers were apprehended in Kano, and 80 kg of codeine and pentazocine injection were seized.

In response to the seizures, the anti-narcotics agency’s Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), accused officers and men of the agency.
