National Women’s Soccer League playoff positions are becoming more competitive

The National Women’s Soccer League playoff positions are up for grabs as the season comes to a close.

Debinha is the one who wants it the most.

The 30-year-old Brazilian dynamo is using all of her might to lead the North Carolina Courage on an amazing ascent from the bottom of the NWSL standings to an improbable playoff spot.

With five goals in the past two games and at least a brace in three of North Carolina’s last five matches, Debinha has assisted the Courage in moving up from 12th to sixth in the NWSL rankings in just five short weeks.

Debinha started her supernatural tear on September 10 at WakeMed Soccer Park during the Courage’s match against Racing Louisville FC.

Four days after scoring two of North Carolina’s five goals in the rout, Debinha assisted on the Courage’s lone goal over Angel City FC.

A week later, Debinha and the rest of the squad lost to Megan Rapinoe and the OL Reign in a challenging home loss, and they then traveled to Florida to play the Orlando Pride.

The 5-foot-1 midfielder won a footrace over Orlando’s defenders to tap one in only two minutes into the game, assisted Tess Boade on her first-half stoppage-time goal, then lofted a shot from the outside of the box into the side netting of the goal to earn a brace minutes into the second half.

Additionally, Debinha dominated on Saturday during the Courage’s second-to-last regular-season game.

Her hat trick, which comprised goals in the 27th, 34th, and 81st minutes, helped Sean Nahas’ squad overcome NJ/NY Gotham.

With just one week left in the regular season, North Carolina suddenly finds itself among the teams vying for one of the two remaining playoff spots, in large part because to Debinha’s late-season heroics, which have catapulted him into the league’s golden boot competition.

The Courage will fly across the nation on Friday night to face Alex Morgan’s San Diego Wave, a team that has already qualified for the playoffs.

With a current one-point lead over the Chicago Red Stars for the sixth and final playoff spot, North Carolina will want to seize control of its own destiny.
