Congresswoman Nancy Mace is calling for her Republican colleague, Congressman Cory Mills of Florida, to face serious consequences amid a swirl of allegations and growing inter-party tensions.
The South Carolina lawmaker, who is also running for governor, has spent the past 24 hours posting extensively about Mills’ alleged misconduct, demanding that he be stripped of his responsibilities.
“When you’re accused of assaulting women, profiting off federal contracts from your congressional seat, and inflating your military record, you have no business shaping America’s defense policy,” Mace wrote in one of her posts.
Allegations Against Mills
Mills has faced numerous controversies this year, ranging from domestic abuse claims to accusations of threatening an ex-girlfriend with revenge porn, stolen valor allegations, and scrutiny over a marriage performed by an imam linked to 9/11 hijackers.
Mills has denied most of the allegations. Regarding his marriage, he previously explained it was a legal step to allow his Iraqi-born wife safe travel to visit her family.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, Mills dismissed Mace’s criticism as politically motivated, calling the stolen valor claims “baseless, recycled, and already publicly disproven.”
Controversial Messages Surface
Mace recently highlighted screenshots of explicit text messages Mills allegedly sent to his 28-year-old girlfriend while married.
In one exchange, Mills purportedly instructed his girlfriend to comply with his demands, referencing sexual activity involving another man.
However, the woman involved, Sarah Raviani, pushed back, claiming the messages were doctored and circulated by an anonymous pro-Palestinian account.
She said her legal team is preparing a cease-and-desist, emphasizing that the messages have “no authentic metadata supporting their claims.”
Domestic Abuse Allegations
In February, the D.C. Metropolitan Police responded to a call at Mills’ apartment after Raviani alleged he had grabbed and shoved her.
Mills’ office has vehemently denied the accusations, and Raviani later stated no assault took place.
Censure Resolution Introduced
On Wednesday, Mace formally introduced a censure resolution against Mills—the strongest penalty short of expulsion for a sitting congressman.
If approved, Mills would have to stand at the front of the House chamber as his infractions are read aloud before all 433 members.
Mace is also pushing to have Mills removed from his committee assignments on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Armed Services Committee, potentially limiting his influence in Congress.
She reportedly sent a letter to Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson urging action.
Political Fallout and GOP Support
The resolution comes shortly after Democrats withdrew a prior censure motion to avoid a counter-censure of Delegate Stacey Plaskett of the Virgin Islands.
This isn’t Mace’s first clash with Mills; she previously threatened to censure him in September over his vote against censure of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
Mace has found some GOP allies. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna criticized Mills indirectly, urging him to “get your crap together, not in Congress.”
Similarly, Lauren Boebert publicly expressed frustration, confronting Mills on the House floor after the failed censure attempt.
House Ethics Investigation
Adding to the pressure, the House Committee on Ethics has opened a probe into Mills’ conduct.
While an investigation does not imply wrongdoing, it signals that leadership is taking the allegations seriously.
Whether Speaker Johnson or other House leaders intervene to broker a deal remains uncertain.
The situation continues to unfold as Congress weighs accountability, political rivalry, and public scrutiny in the spotlight.
