Mpumalanga police have reiterated the call for motorists, travelling on the N4, between Malalane and Komatipoort, to exercise caution after spikes were placed on the highway by criminals, in attempts to rob travellers.

It comes as people make their way home at the end of the Easter Weekend.

Law enforcement officers say some travellers were mugged last week after they were forced to stop when their vehicles’ tyres were punctured by road spikes.

Provincial Police Spokesperson Selvy Mohlala elaborates on the matter.

“We had two incidents of the spikes that were reported at the Komatipoort Police Station whereby one suspect was arrested. A 20-year-old suspect was arrested on Wednesday evening and he was found in possession of a firearm as well as South African cash notes and Mozambican notes.”

Number of spike cases rise on the N4 route in Mpumalanga:
