Missouri restaurant reaches out to find elderly woman who left heartfelt note after receiving free Christmas meal in Springfield

A touching story has emerged from a Missouri restaurant, where a grateful elderly woman left a heartfelt note after receiving a free meal on Christmas Day.

Black Sheep Burgers & Shakes, located in downtown Springfield, is now on a mission to locate this woman and extend a special invitation to her after she expressed her gratitude for the kindness shown to her during a difficult holiday.

A Christmas Day of Kindness at Black Sheep Burgers & Shakes

On Christmas Day, Black Sheep Burgers & Shakes offered a generous gesture to those in need, serving free burgers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The owner, Mike Jalili, took to Facebook to invite anyone struggling to join in the spirit of the season: “All we ask is that you bring your hearts so we can celebrate Christmas together.”

An elderly woman, who said she was down to her last dollar, took advantage of the offer.

After enjoying her meal, she wrote a touching letter expressing her gratitude.

She explained that she has no family left to share the holidays with and was deeply moved by the kindness she experienced at the restaurant.

A Heartfelt Thank You from a Grateful Customer

In her letter addressed to the restaurant’s staff, the woman wrote: “A very heartfelt thank you for the kindness of you all! It would have been a very boring Christmas for me as I have no family left.”

She shared her personal story, revealing that she has been living on her social security payments, which forced her to downsize to renting a room in a shared house.

She also mentioned how her friend had heard about the free meal offer and invited her to join for “Christmas lunch,” as she was left with just $1.

“I feel like I’m in college again!” she wrote, describing her experience with a sense of joy and gratitude.

“The meal was wonderful as were the staff.

Thank you again for making it a day to remember! Blessings.”

Mike Jalili’s Effort to Find the Grateful Customer

Moved by her message, Jalili posted the letter on Facebook, asking for help in locating the woman.

He hopes to invite her to celebrate the holidays with his family.

“I’m wanting to invite her to our house for holidays,” he shared, expressing his desire to make sure the woman feels cared for during the holiday season.

Many followers of the restaurant responded warmly to the gesture, with several people expressing support for Jalili’s effort to extend a hand of friendship.

One woman recalled how her own father was included in the restaurant’s family gatherings after feeling isolated, and others expressed their hope that the woman would be found and welcomed into the community.

Community Support and Kindness Shines Through

Black Sheep Burgers & Shakes has become known for its community spirit, with customers praising the restaurant’s efforts to help those in need.

“My heart breaks for this poor lady but so thankful you guys were a safe place for her on a holiday,” one commenter shared, while another said, “I really hope you find her.

I bet a lot of us in the area would gladly befriend her as well.”

The restaurant, known for its delicious burgers, has four locations across Missouri and is a local favorite.

According to TripAdvisor, it has earned the title of having the best burgers in the entire state.

Mike Jalili’s kind-hearted initiative is a reminder of how a simple act of kindness can make a big difference, especially during the holidays.

As Black Sheep Burgers & Shakes continues its search, many are hoping that this elderly woman will feel the warmth of a community that has already shown her so much compassion.
