AC Milan’s 4-0 victory over Udinese on Friday night was overshadowed by a worrying head injury to goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The French international was involved in a frightening collision with teammate Alex Jimenez, leaving both players on the ground.
The incident occurred during the 54th minute when Maignan rushed out of his area to challenge for the ball, but lost control and collided with Jimenez, who was closing down Udinese’s Hassane Kamara.
Abraham Prays for Maignan’s Health on Sidelines
As Maignan was treated on the pitch, his teammate Tammy Abraham, visibly distressed, was seen dropping to his knees in prayer from the sidelines.
The scene was tense, with both sets of players appearing deeply concerned about the goalkeeper’s condition.
Thankfully, reports from Italy later confirmed that Maignan was conscious and speaking when he was taken off on a stretcher, although the seriousness of his injury remains unclear.
Maignan’s Injury and Jimenez’s Condition After the Collision
The collision left both Maignan and Jimenez on the ground for several minutes, with Maignan appearing to lose consciousness.
While Maignan was stretchered off, Jimenez continued playing but was eventually substituted 18 minutes after the restart.
The injury caused a significant pause in the game, adding to the overall tension of the match.
AC Milan Dominates the Match Despite Injury Concerns
Despite the injury to Maignan, AC Milan continued to dominate the game.
Rafael Leao opened the scoring with a stunning 20-yard strike, followed by Strahinja Pavlovic’s glancing header from a corner just before halftime.
Udinese struggled to keep up in the second half, and Milan took full advantage of the space, adding two more goals.
Theo Hernandez netted a fantastic solo goal in the 74th minute, and substitute Tammy Abraham provided an excellent cross for Tijjani Reijnders to score the fourth and final goal.
The win was a much-needed boost for Milan, but the club will undoubtedly be anxiously awaiting news on Maignan’s recovery after such a concerning incident.
