A hospital in Michigan has been placed on lockdown after reports of an active shooter on the loose.
The incident unfolded early on Thursday morning, with staff at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital being advised to take immediate safety precautions.
Medical workers were reportedly barricaded in a supply room as authorities work to locate the suspect.
Police Confirm Shooting at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy
Around 8 am ET on Thursday, Troy Police Department confirmed that a shooting had taken place at the hospital, which is located about 24 miles north of Detroit.
Early reports suggest the shooting began in the radiology department.
Police have confirmed that the suspect remains at large, and the situation is ongoing.
As authorities continue their response, law enforcement agencies have rushed to the scene, with at least two dozen vehicles reported in the area.
Hospital Staff and Community Respond to Emergency
A shelter-in-place order has been issued for the hospital, urging staff and visitors to remain in place until further notice.
Barbara, a nurse working at the hospital, told WXYZ that she had heard the gunfire start in the radiology department.
Hospital workers have been taking refuge inside a supply room, as the threat remains unresolved.
In an emergency warning to hospital staff, a message read, “THIS IS AN EMERGENCY – There is an ACTIVE SHOOTER Troy Hospital in the Parking Structure building.”
The message continued, advising staff to follow the run, hide, fight guidelines for their safety.
Nearby Schools on Soft Lockdown
In addition to the hospital lockdown, nearby schools have also gone into a soft lockdown.
This means that while classes continue, students are being kept inside for safety.
Authorities have not yet provided further details on whether anyone has been injured or killed in the incident.
