As news of Michael’s death spread, many of his colleagues and fans took to social media to pay their respects.
Charles Hanson, a fellow Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow star, shared his tribute: “Rest in peace @baggottsilver, a giant of our antique industry, our ‘Arthur Negus,’ never afraid to call out ‘an expert’ who got it wrong, including myself.
Michael’s thirst for knowledge deserved far more TV time for a true and proper expert.”
Nick Hall, a Flog It! expert, tweeted, “Michael was a true connoisseur and ambassador of the antiques world, a font of knowledge and generous with his expertise.
He was a raconteur and an all-around top bloke. It was a pleasure to have known you, Michael.”
A Troubling Health Battle and Concerns Shared by Fans
In early December 2024, fans grew concerned for Michael’s health when he shared a series of distressing videos from his hospital bed.
The Flog It! star revealed that he had been bedridden at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham for five weeks after suffering a stroke.
In one video, he expressed his frustrations, claiming he had been severely dehydrated due to insufficient water intake during his hospital stay.
He stated, “I’ve been left without any water at all, becoming badly dehydrated.
The gaps between water intake were as long as 17 hours.
I’m dying of thirst in a British NHS hospital, and no one seems prepared to do anything about it.”
Despite his struggles, Michael thanked the junior doctors and nursing staff for their efforts, although he felt that the senior management and doctors were unhelpful in his recovery.
He later updated his followers with a more optimistic message, saying he felt “slightly more hopeful” after receiving better hydration and support.
