MESHI Calls For Inclusion Of Insecticide Treated Nets In Budget

The Malaria Eradication and Safe Health Initiative, MESHI has asked for an inclusion of Insecticide treated net in the State budget.

The group made this known during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budgeting and Development in Awka.

The visit which followed after a community diagnosis for malaria intervention carried out in Anambra State under the Global Fund Community Rights and Gender project was to consent for budget for the provision and distribution of free mosquito nets, availability of free antimalarial drugs and free antenatal services for pregnant women, sensitization for malaria prevention and control, periodic fumigation among others.

Briefing the ministry on their reason for the visit, the leader of the group, Professor Dennis Aribodor revealed that it is of utmost importance to note that in each of the three communities visited, the participants identified malaria as their major health problems and assured them of their full cooperation in achieving all the demands to be State malaria free.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning, Budgeting and Development, Mr. Daniel Ezeanwu who appreciated the group said that the state will take into consideration their advice, assuring them of the ministry’s support to eliminating malaria in Anambra State.

The group also paid a visit to the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency and was received by the Executive Secretary of the agency Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu.

Receiving the Leader of the group Dr. Ezenyimulu said that over three point eight million mosquito treated nets will be distributed across the State from 8th May, 2022 to 8th July, 2022 and assured that the state will do all it takes to be at the top.
