Manie Libbok Faces Growing Competition at Stormers as European Clubs Show Interest in the Springbok Fly-Half

Springbok fly-half Manie Libbok is currently the subject of interest from several prominent European clubs, including Racing 92 and Leicester Tigers.

The French side previously considered Libbok as a potential replacement for Finn Russell two years ago but ultimately decided to sign England’s Owen Farrell instead.

Despite this, reports suggest that Racing 92 is still keen on bringing the talented World Cup winner into their ranks.

Libbok, who is under contract with the Stormers until 2027, faces growing competition for the starting number 10 spot, particularly with the rise of Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

Given these circumstances, Libbok may be tempted to look to Europe for a fresh challenge and the opportunity to secure a more prominent starting role.

Elrigh Louw Faces Lengthy Recovery After Devastating Injury

Springbok loose forward Elrigh Louw is currently dealing with the aftermath of a serious knee injury.

Back in January, Louw tore the ligaments in his left knee during a match against the Lions, sidelining the powerful Bulls enforcer for an estimated eleven months.

In an update shared with SA Rugby magazine, Louw explained, “I’m waiting for the specialist to give me the go-ahead so I can start my rehab.

The specialist said it’s about a year-long recovery, but it’s an outcome-based plan.

If I’m feeling better in 11 months, or even 9 months, then I’ll be ready to go.”

While optimistic about his recovery, Louw is realistically targeting a return to play by January or February next year, allowing him time to get back into form before the Springbok Tests in 2026.

A Tough Road to Recovery for Louw

Louw’s recovery process has been challenging.

After his injury, he had to wait for three weeks for the swelling in his knee to subside before he could undergo surgery.

Since the operation, he has been confined to bed rest for a week, but he is now able to stand, though still unable to apply any pressure to his injured leg or bend it.

“I’m no longer bed-bound and I can stand up. I can’t put any pressure on my leg, and I can’t bend it,” Louw shared.

A significant milestone for him has been being able to move freely on crutches and even drive around, which has helped him avoid feeling completely stuck at home during this tough period.

Looking Ahead: Can Libbok Feature for the Springboks This Year?

As the season progresses, questions are being raised about whether Manie Libbok will feature for the Springboks this year.

With his future uncertain, it remains to be seen whether he will stay with the Stormers or make the move to Europe.

Fans are also eager to know whether Louw will be fit in time to feature for the Springboks in the coming seasons.

His recovery will undoubtedly be a long road, but with determination and a clear goal in sight, Louw is focused on getting back on the field as soon as possible.
