Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has found himself in hot water after being caught speeding twice within a span of three days.
The 31-year-old footballer has been banned from driving for 56 days and hit with a fine of £1,052 (about R24,500) following the incidents.
Caught Speeding Near Manchester Airport
The first incident occurred in March 2024 when Maguire was caught on camera driving his Range Rover at a speed of 85mph in a 50mph zone.
This took place on Wilmslow Road, just under the runway of Manchester Airport.
The footage clearly shows the defender breaking the speed limit by a considerable margin, which led to the charges.
Guilty Plea in Court
Maguire appeared at Bolton Magistrates’ Court on October 2, where he pleaded guilty to the speeding offence.
His solicitor, Gwyn Lewis, acknowledged that the speed was “wholly excessive” and accepted the responsibility for the actions.
The court also heard that at the time of the incident, Maguire already had three penalty points on his driving licence from a previous offence in 2021.
Another Speeding Incident Just Days Later
Two days after the initial speeding event, on March 7, Maguire was caught speeding again.
As a result, he was handed an additional three penalty points, which contributed to his current ban.
Although he was offered a speed awareness course as part of his penalty, Maguire was unable to attend due to being away from the country during the summer months.
The Penalty and Fine
Maguire was fined £666 and ordered to pay £120 in costs, along with a £266 surcharge.
The fine and ban are part of his punishment for the two speeding offences, which have garnered attention due to his high-profile career as a footballer.
