Manchester United supporters are voicing their frustration after injured defender Luke Shaw appeared in a TikTok video with influencer Molly-Mae Hague, especially with the club’s performance in the Premier League continuing to falter.
Luke Shaw Parties on New Year’s Eve Amid Manchester United’s Crisis
Shaw, along with his wife Anouska, joined Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague at a lavish New Year’s Eve party.
In a video posted on TikTok, Shaw can be seen mouthing a popular phrase from a viral trend, “Your mum’s on benefits.”
While many may have seen this as harmless fun, a number of Manchester United fans were far from impressed.
Fans Slam Shaw for Lack of Focus Amid Team’s Struggles
Some supporters didn’t hold back in expressing their displeasure, taking to social media to criticize Shaw’s decision to participate in the TikTok while Manchester United is struggling in the league.
With the team currently sitting in 14th place after four straight losses, fans were quick to point out that Shaw’s focus seemed misplaced.
“Manchester United in the worst form of my lifetime and Luke Shaw is doing TikToks with Molly-Mae,” one fan commented.
Another added, “Luke Shaw doing TikToks with Molly Mae, he would never play again if Fergie was still in charge. Embarrassing club?”
A third fan expressed frustration, saying, “There has to be a sense of professionalism.
This player, in particular, has been unavailable for most of the season while earning £150,000 per week. We’re 14th!”
Defenders of Shaw: Players Deserve Personal Time
However, not all fans shared the same opinion.
Some came to Shaw’s defense, arguing that players are entitled to enjoy their personal lives and have fun away from the pressure of football.
“Yes, I forgot when someone is having a tough time at work they’re not allowed to go out and celebrate New Year’s or have a social life,” one supporter said.
“Fans are so toxic, it’s embarrassing! Yes, a player is allowed to have some fun and banter over New Year with his friends and family, get over it.”
Shaw’s Recent Injury Struggles and Commitment to Return
Shaw has been sidelined for much of the 2024 season due to injuries.
In December, he posted a heartfelt message on social media about his struggles, sharing that he had faced a “small setback” in his recovery.
He admitted to being devastated by the injury, acknowledging that many fans might feel frustrated with his ongoing absences.
“I understand there are people frustrated, angry, and disappointed, and I get that,” Shaw wrote.
“But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.”
Shaw’s Injury History and Manchester United’s Poor Form
Injuries have limited Shaw to just eight appearances for Manchester United in 2024, though he did feature three times for England in Euro 2024.
As Manchester United continues to struggle, they will be hoping for better results when they face Liverpool this weekend.
With the Red Devils only seven points clear of the relegation zone, the pressure is mounting for the team to turn their form around.
