A man who slammed his car into a tree at high speed has given a backhanded thank you to the good Samaritan who rescued him by snatching the good Samaritan’s automobile and fleeing the scene.
The alleged offender was driving along Steve Irwin Way on the Sunshine Coast when he crashed into a tree, prompting a rush of worried motorists to the scene to assist the occupant.
According to police, one of those who stopped to help the crash victim was a guy in his 60s, who had his maroon Mazda CX-5 stolen by the driver of the smashed car.
The Mazda was then driven northward on Steve Irwin Way in Landsborough, 20 kilometers inland from Caloundra.
The suspect driver is characterized as a male between the ages of 18 and 30 years old.
Before smashing into the tree, he was driving a white Jaguar SUV.
According to preliminary investigations, the Jaguar, which was reported stolen from nearby Worongary, lost control shortly after 9 a.m.
According to reports, the driver slammed into a tree before exiting the vehicle, grabbed a backpack, and speeding away with the other vehicle.
Cade Mooney, a photographer on the Sunshine Coast, told the Courier Mail that he heard a huge blast while capturing images nearby.
Mr Mooney claimed the Jaguar slammed into the tree ‘without brakes,’ before rushing over to assist in dragging the driver from the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames.
Before he heard an older man say the guy had taken his automobile, the astonished onlooker said he was trying to see whether there were additional people in the car.
Anyone with information, relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the time of the event, or a white Jaguar or maroon Mazda CX-5, should call police.
