A craftsman who fell four stories onto a concrete driveway after his cherry picker overturned is in serious condition in the hospital.

On Sunday at about 12.30 p.m., emergency personnel were sent to the apartment complex in Allawah in Sydney’s south after witnesses heard the metal basket strike the sidewalk.

The guy was painting the eaves on the building’s roof when the cherry picker became unstable, leading him to tilt, according to acting NSW Ambulance Inspector Andrew Bibby.

The 32-year-old maintenance worker was put into an induced coma by paramedics and sent immediately to St. George Hospital for treatment, where it is believed that his health has stabilised.

While waiting for paramedics, trained lifeguard Andrew Collington rushed to the guy after hearing the collision and dialling triple zero.

At the scene, Mr. Collington told reporters, “He wasn’t cognizant, but he was plainly attempting to move a little bit.”

It was a really loud sound, and the man within the basket had plummeted quite a distance before crashing to the ground.

Police have roped off the area while they and SafeWork NSW conduct an investigation.
