Mamelodi Sundowns are ahead of Kaizer Chiefs in the race for SuperSport United midfielder Sipho Mbule‘s signature.

And that’s according to a source within the Matsatsantsa who confirmed that Mbule could be heading to Sundowns instead of Chiefs.

The Brazilians have been persistent in their chase for Mbule, so much so that they have again met SuperSport United’s asking price for the midfielder.

The source said Sundowns and SuperSport United have have been holding talks behind the scenes regarding Mbule since the failed January deal.

Now, with Mbule’s contract with SuperSport United coming to an end in June, the two parties have seemingly triggered the option the club had.

And that’s to ensure that Mbule doesn’t leave for free come the end of the season – and his possible destination, at this stage, is Sundowns.

Chiefs, on the other hand, haven’t gone back to SuperSport United regarding Mbule, meaning they might have shifted their focus following the inquiry they made in January.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS MAKE HEADWAY IN PURSUIT OF SIPHO MBULE

“It looks like he’s going to Sundowns. They are the only team that has been talking to SuperSport United behind the scenes,” the source The South African.

“Of course, he won’t leave for free. Sundowns met the asking price a long time ago. So, the move was just a matter of time since they don’t have competition.

“On Chiefs… I don’t think they are still interested. They last spoke to the club in January, and that was it. So, the Mbule to Sundowns move is almost certain,” concluded the source.

HAS MBULE’S TRANSFER VALUE DECREASED?

While there is no confirmation on how much Sundowns are willing to pay for Mbule, his transfer value has undoubtedly decreased.

And that’s because the 24-year-old hasn’t featured for Matsatsantsa in recent months – he made a single appearance for the Tshwane club in 2022.

Over a month ago, Mbule was suspended by SuperSport United for being ‘disrespectful’ towards his teammates and the badge, according to CEO Stanley Matthews.

Matthews, at the time, revealed that Mbule would probably not wear the SuperSport United jersey again – and this is likely to be the case as Sundowns are strong favourites to lure him to Chloorkop.
