Mamelodi Sundowns are said to be edging closer to beat Orlando Pirates to the signature of Golden Arrows centre backs Nkosinathi Sibisi.
Sibisi has been the subject of intense interest from both Sundowns and Pirates and it now seems as if, it is the Tshwane-based outfit that will win the race to his signature.
Sibisi key to Arrows side
Sibisi has found himself as a key cog in the defence of Arrows, which then, perhaps makes it no surprise that he captains the Durban-based side. So impressive have his performances been for the Abafana bes’thende, that he has caught the eye of the Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos. Broos has called him up to at least three of his squads, his very first as well as his latest preliminary squad.
Not too long ago, it was rumoured that all of Sundowns, Pirates and Chiefs had an interest in Sibisi but it is now becoming more apparent that it is The Brazilians and Buccaneers that had been going toe to toe for his signature. Now according to sources speaking to Soccer-Laduma, the Bafana Bafana international is in ‘advanced talks’ with the DStv Premiership champions and is poised to join the side ahead of the next season. The publication goes on further to state that, he is seen as the preferred replacement to former centre back Riccardo Nascimento who traded Tshwane for Durban’s Royal AM earlier this year.
In advanced talks with Sundowns
“Arrows centre-back Nkosinathi Sibisi is being lined up as a potential successor to Nascimento, according to the Siya sources. During the season, Sundowns coaches Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena were forced to change central defenders due to injuries to Rushine De Reuck, Brian Onyango Rushine De Reuck and Grant Kekana. Sibisi, in advanced talks with Sundowns, has featured in 20 DStv Premiership matches this campaign, scoring three times and providing one assist. His impressive performances have seen him also earn a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad. Sundowns are not the only side interested in acquiring the services of Sibisi, as Orlando Pirates are also in the race.”. Wrote the publication.
Pirates given up?
So although Pirates still seem to be in the running for Sibisi, their new found interest in AmaZulu centre back Thapelo Xoki might give Sundowns a clear path to signing the tough as nails Arrows man.
