Macclesfield footballer Ethan McLeod has tragically passed away at just 21 years old following a road accident on the M1.
The promising forward, who rose through the Wolves academy, was returning from Bedford Town after the Silkmen’s 2-1 victory on Tuesday night when his white Mercedes collided with a nearside metal barrier near junction 15 for Northampton at around 10:40 p.m.
Immediate Response and Road Closure
Despite prompt assistance from members of the public and responding officers, Ethan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident led to the overnight closure of the M1, which finally reopened at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information about the crash to come forward to aid their investigation.
Macclesfield’s Heartfelt Tribute
Macclesfield FC released an emotional statement on Wednesday, remembering Ethan not just as a footballer, but as a vibrant and inspiring young man.
The club described him as “incredibly talented and well-respected” with a personality that “endeared him to everyone he came into contact with.”
The tribute continued, highlighting Ethan’s dedication and infectious energy.
“In giving his all in everything he did, Ethan effortlessly pushed us all to be the best we can be – both on and off the pitch.
Ethan’s professionalism and unwavering work ethic inspired everyone, and his lust for life put smiles on all our faces – even on the darkest of days.”

The club said that Ethan’s death has left them in total shock.
“News of Ethan’s passing has devastated our entire Club and no words can convey the immense sense of sadness and loss that we feel now,” they wrote.
They emphasized that while the grief will leave “deep mental scars,” Ethan’s spirit and legacy will live on.
“Ethan will live in our hearts and minds forevermore and no matter what the future holds, his unique smile that mesmerized us all will never be forgotten.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to Ethan’s family and friends at this deeply traumatic time.”
A Journey Through Football
Ethan spent a decade in the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy before playing for Alvechurch FC, Rushall Olympic, and Stourbridge.
In July, he signed for National League North side Macclesfield, quickly becoming a beloved member of the team both on and off the pitch.
