Luvuyo Phewa Begins Thrilling AmaZulu FC Journey Following Mamelodi Sundowns Loan Completion in 2024/25 DStv Premiership Season

When one door closes, another opens.

Luvuyo Phewa is embarking on an exciting new journey with AmaZulu FC after wrapping up his one-year loan spell from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Phewa, 24, had a standout season at Cape Town Spurs, catching the eyes of many clubs, including Sekhukhune United and the Urban Warriors, who were eager to sign him permanently.

Despite his season being cut short by a medical issue, his impressive performances didn’t go unnoticed.

This led to Sundowns offering him a lengthy contract, showing their faith in his potential.

Even though Sundowns’ sporting director, Flemming Berg, is a huge fan of Phewa, the club decided to loan him to AmaZulu for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

Phewa completed his medical with AmaZulu on Monday, officially finalizing the loan deal.

Due to medical reasons, he was unable to join Sundowns on their pre-season trip to Austria.

A Major Acquisition for AmaZulu

AmaZulu’s success in securing Phewa, especially against other interested clubs, is a significant win for the team.

His addition will undoubtedly enhance their midfield, bringing a dynamic and creative edge to their play.

But AmaZulu isn’t stopping there.

They are also on the brink of loaning Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro.

Etiosa Ighodaro: Another Strategic Loan

Ighodaro, 23, recently returned to Sundowns after a season-long loan at SuperSport United but didn’t join the squad for their Austrian pre-season training.

The Nigerian striker has had prior loan spells at Chippa United and the University of Pretoria. This move would further boost AmaZulu’s attacking capabilities for the upcoming season.

Ambitious Moves in the Transfer Market

AmaZulu has been very active in the transfer market, already securing Guinea winger Boniface Haba, Sifiso Ngobeni, and Senzo Ndlovu from Sinekani.

The additions of Phewa and Ighodaro showcase the club’s determination to compete fiercely in the DStv Premiership.

With a reinforced squad blending experienced players and young talents, AmaZulu is poised for a promising season ahead after missing out on a top-eight finish last season, ending in 11th place.
