Luton Town are making a strong move to support their new manager, Matt Bloomfield, with the signing of Wigan’s talented midfielder Thelo Aasgaard.
The Championship side, currently fighting relegation, has agreed to a £3 million deal to bring the 22-year-old playmaker to Kenilworth Road.
This quick action is aimed at boosting their squad and avoiding a second consecutive relegation.
Interest from Other Championship Clubs
Aasgaard, who has been in excellent form this season, scoring 12 goals, has attracted the attention of several other Championship clubs, including Norwich, Blackburn, and Stoke.
However, Luton has managed to act swiftly to fend off this competition and secure the promising young talent for themselves.
Aasgaard’s Growing Reputation
The Norwegian under-21 international has been making waves since joining Wigan in 2020 and signing a five-year contract in 2023.
His performances on the pitch have made him one of the club’s standout players, and his development has not gone unnoticed by higher-tier clubs.
Wigan manager Shaun Maloney, who was part of the club’s famous 2013 FA Cup-winning team, has previously mentioned that Aasgaard could be sold if the right offer came in.
Maloney praised the midfielder’s professionalism and effort, acknowledging that such opportunities are part of the club’s development model.
Luton’s Urgent Need for Strengthening
With Luton struggling in 23rd place in the Championship, Bloomfield is hoping Aasgaard’s arrival will inject some much-needed quality into the squad.
The Hatters, who were in the Premier League last season, are desperate for points and Bloomfield will be hoping to secure his first win as the new manager.
Luton’s next fixture is an away match against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, and they are hoping to see Aasgaard make his debut and contribute to the team’s efforts.
