It’s no secret that Mamelodi Sundowns star, Lucas Ribeiro, has been turning heads this season.
With his exceptional performances, the 26-year-old Brazilian forward has caught the attention of European clubs, and it looks like a move overseas could be on the cards.
This news brings a bit of relief to both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans, who have struggled to find the same level of consistency in their key players.
Ribeiro’s Stellar Performance
Ribeiro has been absolutely on fire in the South African league, scoring an impressive 13 goals in just 20 appearances.
His outstanding form has helped solidify Sundowns’ place at the top, and he’s now considered a strong contender for Player of the Season.
In fact, whenever Sundowns faced Chiefs or Pirates, Ribeiro was often the one making a difference on the field, finding the back of the net more often than not.
What’s the Next Step for Ribeiro?
While he’s currently focused on helping Sundowns win more silverware, including the CAF Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup, Ribeiro’s future remains uncertain.
His agent, A. Driss, mentioned that the player is enjoying his time in South Africa, but with so many clubs interested in his services, it’s clear that the Brazilian’s next move could be a big one.
However, for now, Ribeiro’s primary focus is to give his best for Sundowns and continue contributing to the team’s success.
A Committed Player
Despite the growing interest from overseas clubs, Ribeiro remains dedicated to his current team.
According to Driss, Ribeiro is not thinking about his future just yet and is entirely focused on helping Sundowns achieve their goals.
“Right now, he is committed to the Champions League and the Club World Cup, and after that, we’ll see what happens,” Driss explained.
It’s clear Ribeiro is happy in South Africa, and his commitment to Sundowns is unwavering.
Driss also shared that his phone has been ringing off the hook with inquiries from various teams, but for Ribeiro, the most important thing is to be at a club where he’s happy, plays regularly, and can win trophies.
As of now, Sundowns checks all of those boxes.
Sundowns’ Stronghold on the League
Ribeiro’s influence has been evident in Sundowns’ dominance this season.
While Chiefs and Pirates have struggled with consistency, Sundowns has remained strong, with Ribeiro being one of the key players who has helped the team maintain their lead.
The Brazilians are currently 18 points ahead of Pirates, and with this kind of form, they are favorites to claim their eighth consecutive league title.
Will Ribeiro Stay with Sundowns?
With so much interest in Ribeiro, fans are left wondering if Sundowns will be able to hold on to their star player for much longer.
The next few months could determine whether he stays or makes the move to Europe.
What do you think? Will Sundowns manage to keep Ribeiro, or will the lure of European football be too strong to resist?
