Jorge Garay, 46, of Hythe Street, Dartford, is accused of murdering Karla Godoy, 36, between Wednesday, September 21, and Sunday, October 2, in Lima, Peru.

Saturday, he was arrested in London, and on Sunday, the Crown Prosecution Service authorized charges against him.

Garay, who police said was acquainted with the victim, was held in jail until his Monday court appearance.

Officers continue to work closely with Peruvian authorities as part of the ongoing investigation, Kent Police stated in a statement.

Karla Xiomara Zelaya Godoy, a London-based Honduran-Spanish national, was murdered in Peru.

Eleven days after her disappeared, on 3 October, Peruvian authorities began investigating her disappearance.

Garay has been remanded in custody and will appear later today before the Folkestone Magistrates Court.

She was murdered between September 21 and October 2, according to the police.

Officers continue to engage closely with Peruvian officials as part of the ongoing investigation, according to a Kent Police spokesperson.
