Authorities in charge of traffic have been urged by concerned residents to take down a sign that reads, “Welcome to Cum.” The sign along the A689 that welcomes travelers to Cumbria is supposed to say “Welcome to Cumbria,” but three of the letters have vanished.

One social media user commented on the image, saying, “I shudder to even consider what they’re doing up the road.”

Someone hasn’t been keeping watch of the signage, said another, adding that this is a pretty regrettable and humiliating blunder.

Mr. Wilkes concurred, saying, “I believe our colleagues in Cumbria over the border may wish to alter their signs.”

In the North of England, signage have often given drivers pause and provided amusement.

Letters were missing from the “Welcome to Cumbria” sign that was erected near the North Yorkshire border last October. Instead, it said, “We come to Cum.”

A local council had planned to update the signs, but Thirsk locals were shocked to find that they were still inaccurate after many years.
