South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo opened up about suicide and previously being broke on the latest episode of Living the Dream with Somizi which aired on Showmax on Wednesday 18 May.

SOMIZI OPENS UP ABOUT SUICIDE AND BEING BROKE

Somizi sat down with his “bestie” Vusi Nova and revealed that there are times where he gets depressed. He explained that he was justified to commit suicide with the year he has had.

“Honestly, I was justified this year to commit suicide like with things I’ve been through. So, I think it hit me,” he said.

However, Somizi revealed that he has had worse times, mentioning a time when he only had R11 left but he said that still was not the worst. He thought 2021 was the worst year he had because he was betrayed by someone close to him.

“So, what you saying is that this was the worst year for you?” asked Vusi Nova.

“No, I’ve had years where I was broke, broke, broke… and I was left with R11 but this was the worst in terms of… well I think there’s nothing worse than betrayal. There’s no pain that is more painful than the pain of being betrayed. Because you can only be betrayed by someone close to you. So 2021 taught me that,” he said.

WHY WAS 2021 SO ROUGH FOR SOMIZI?

Somizi had a rough year last year because his estranged husband, Mohale Motaung accused him of physically and psychologically abusing him – via audio clips leaked by Sunday World.

In the aftermath of the leaked audio clips, Somizi was put on “time off” from his seat on the judging panel of Idols SA. He was also put on “time off” from his radio gig on Metro FM. Tweeps were cancelling him for being an alleged abuser.

Somizi later regained his seat on the judging panel of Idols SA and bagged a few more television gigs.
