Following the team’s 1-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, the police have confirmed they have received a report of suspected criminal damage to Manchester City’s bus.

An photograph showed the bus’ windshield being damaged, which City said was brought on by something being hurled from the street.

On Wednesday, Merseyside Police issued a request for further details on the incident.

After the Sunday, October 16, match between Liverpool and Manchester City, “we have now received a complaint of suspected criminal damage of the Manchester City team coach,” the statement said.

On Tuesday, October 18, “the incidence of claimed damage to the windshield was reported to us, and additional investigations are proceeding.”

With the animosity between the two teams escalating in recent years as they fought for dominance, there have been incidents of crowd disturbance surrounding Liverpool and City games at Anfield before.

After supporters stormed the City bus as it arrived at Anfield for a Champions League match in 2018, Liverpool was penalized.

Pep Guardiola, the city manager, said that during Sunday’s tense game, coins were hurled at him from the fans, but he was unharmed. Liverpool promised life sentences for offenders.

Liverpool also voiced their displeasure at City supporters’ chants and graffiti on Sunday that alluded to the 1980s stadium disasters at Heysel and Hillsborough.

On Tuesday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was accused of acting improperly after he was ejected by referee Anthony Taylor at the conclusion of the game for going too far in his complaints against the officials.

If found guilty, he may be barred from the touchline.
