It’s official—LIV Golf is heading to South Africa for the very first time, and the excitement is already building.

And this isn’t just a one-off event—it’s part of a multi-year commitment to the continent.
For LIV Golf, this marks a significant milestone: expanding its global footprint to five continents.

Meet the Home Team: All Eyes on Stinger GC
The event will shine a spotlight on Stinger GC, LIV’s all-South African team led by none other than Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 Open Champion.
He’s joined by fellow countrymen and golf legends Dean Burmester, Branden Grace, and 2011 Masters winner Charl Schwartzel.
With a home crowd behind them, there’s high hope that Stinger GC can make South Africa proud—both individually and as a team.
Oosthuizen even called the chance to play at home “an unforgettable experience” and said it’s a chance to give back to the country that raised them.

A Venue That Promises Spectacle
Steyn City is no ordinary golf course. Located just north of Johannesburg, this estate is known for its lush design by Nicklaus Design—yes, that Jack Nicklaus.
With dramatic fairways, top-tier facilities, and a track record of hosting elite tournaments, it’s a natural choice for LIV’s African debut.
Broadcasts from this picturesque setting are sure to catch global attention—and it won’t just be about the golf.
Not Just Golf—It’s a Festival
LIV Golf is known for more than just tee times and scorecards.
Their events are part sport, part party, with live music, post-play concerts, and immersive fan experiences.
South Africa’s edition promises the same energy, with big-name music acts expected to be announced as the date draws closer.
The idea is to give fans of all ages and interests something to enjoy—and make the event a true cultural moment.
A Big Deal for South Africa
Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie called the announcement a historic one.
He praised LIV for bringing world-class golf—and its festival-style experience—to South African shores.
He also highlighted the tourism potential. “Visitors will truly feel that they are in Africa,” he said, pointing out that a Big 5 wildlife reserve—Dinokeng—is just under an hour away from the course.
McKenzie also hopes this sets an example for other global sports to include Africa in their calendars—from Formula One to the Olympics.
Local Leaders Celebrate Global Attention
Steven Louw, CEO of Steyn City Properties, said the event will spotlight both Johannesburg and South Africa on the world stage.
He sees it as a chance to show off the country’s “world-class lifestyle estate and golf course,” and believes it will help grow the sport locally while attracting international interest.
LIV’s Vision for Global Growth
For LIV Golf, the South African event isn’t just about one tournament—it’s about expanding the game’s reach.
Ross Hallett, LIV Golf’s EVP and Head of Events, said the league’s goal is to push golf forward through innovation, partnerships, and reinvestment into the communities that host them.
“This will be a celebration of golf, music, and South African pride,” he added, emphasizing the league’s commitment to creating long-term benefits in every country it touches.
